(Lost Theories) Is Man In Black Loki from Norse Mythology?

OK, so I just watched LOST season 6 episode 09 (Ab Aeterno) and as Jacob was revealing to Richard that everything was like this bottle of wine he was holding. And that the wine represented evil and the cork represented the island...It kind of hit me - that maybe Jacob and MIB are actually fallen angels? And that is the sole reason that they can not kill one another. I particularly thought I MIB was being like Loki ( The Angel of Death) I decided to do some research on Loki and found this...

"In Norse mythology, Loki is a god or jötunn (or both). Loki's relation with the gods varies by source. Loki assists the gods, and sometimes causes problems for them. Loki is a shape shifter and in separate incidents he appears in the form of a salmon and a mare. Loki's positive relations with the gods ends with his role in engineering the death of the god Baldr. "

I don't know about you - but that sounds an awful lot like our Man in Black. My theory is that MIB and Jacob are both Angels banished from the Sky world/Heaven or whatever you would like to call it. They have to earn the right to go back where they belong by absolving their sins. So assuming MIB sinned without remorse and Jacob sinned without knowing. Its easy to see why MIB would feel that its in our nature to sin. In contrast - Jacob does not feel this way - but he believes that in order to gain salvation we should not be told what to do. Well originally this was the case, but with the help of Richard he realises that he must interfere or MIB would. For this reason he doesn't want to go back to heaven. He likes humans and the fact they have choice and free will is an attractive and interesting concept to him. MIB on the other hand makes out he believes in fate and destiny - but this is only to manipulate people to his will.

I hope this all made sense! I'm only posting this as a mate told me it was worth writing about...If you have any questions or your own theories as to why mine could be wrong - I would be very interested to discuss them. :) On a side note - I dont believe they are in hell - as some people have taken to be literal...I think they are "just on a damn island!"

Thanks for reading my lost obsessed rant people. If you point out grammar mistakes I will kill you.

LIKE IT!!!

i must admit this was the first episode where i didnt feel either were "good" or "bad" but equally trying to prove a point.

i'm guessing the smashing of the bottle/island would be the loophole?!

Yeh - they are pretty much great atm - though most of the episode was trying to show MIB as a darker more sinister character. Smashing the bottle/island the loophole? Awesome! :D

Make the alternate time line seem like it actaully might be a flash forward into their new lives eh?

I meant grey - not great!***

so is hurley the one to replace jacob??

!!M said...

Where do you get that idea from? Do tell???

just the way jacob has taken hurley under his wing .... if we assume the candidate we replace jacob from what we saw this episode jacob would want someone who will not sin. out of all thats left surely hurley is the most righteous?!

will replace ... not we replace

That makes a whole lot of sense actually! He has done NO wrong. And then maybe Jack and Sawyer kill each other over not being chosen! lol Hurley FTW! :D

hurley FTW indeed!!!

the numbers were given to him as his biggest test. he won the lotto yet remained without sin ..... he is the ultimate good guy.

my only problem with this is that if jacob is good maybe hurley has to stay on the island to keep smocke there ... not a fan of that
